Tynwald, Isle of Man
1966
Tynwald Hill at St John's, photographed in December 1966. The mound is stepped in four tiers, and the ceremony held on it is the reason Tynwald describes itself as the oldest parliament in continuous existence; Iceland's Althing was founded earlier, in 930, but was suspended between 1800 and 1845.
