House Music

House music, from a members-only warehouse on Chicago's South Jefferson Street to the sound under most of pop radio. Built by Black and Latino people, many of them gay, out of drum machines their own manufacturers had discontinued, then carried to New York, Ibiza, Britain, Johannesburg and Paris. Includes the correction most references get wrong: kwaito is house, by its own originators' testimony, not hip-hop.
