A black and white press photograph headed BIGAMY RAID, from the 12 August 1954 edition of the Nome Nugget. Prosecutions of plural marriage drew heavy coverage in the years after the 1953 state raid on Short Creek, an operation that turned public opinion against the authorities who ordered it.
