Ugandan police revisit reports that Joseph Kibwetere, who founded the movement with Credonia Mwerinde, was alive outside the country. Ugandan authorities concluded the deaths were mass murder; other commentators have argued otherwise, and an anthropologist has argued the bodies found in pits were earlier malaria burials unconnected to the fire.
