Art Car Lord Duke en route to Burning Man, 1997

Here is Lord Duke, the celebrated art car created by author Rick McKinney. In this clip, Duke is accosted by a southern Oregon news team while grocery shopping on the way to Burning Man, 1997. Initially inspired by the work of gonzo journalist Hunter S. Thompson, Duke grew over the years into a rolling auto-biography of its poet creator's life. Featuring 23 steamer trunks, three TVs, two typewriters and brass ship's portal side windows, Duke is a rolling museum, a monument to motoring freedom, a great gonzo salute to the hobbling but far-from-dead American Dream.
