A November 2023 TikTok built around the phrase 'brain rot', posted more than a year before Oxford University Press made it Word of the Year for 2024. It gathered over 640,000 views on the record. The word was already in service as a self-aware label for overstimulating content, well before the Italian roster arrived to illustrate it.
