Schengen - border reopens

Spain and Portugal both accede to the Schengen Area on 26 March 1995. The checkpoints between Paymogo and Barrancos, Rosal de la Frontera and Ficalho disappear; weekly cross-border trade, that ran continuously from medieval times until the 20th-century border closures, resumes after a 50-year administrative interruption.
