Sterling Is Devalued and the Budget Cracks

The devaluation of the pound forced an emergency review of public expenditure, and the Aldabra airfield, already under sustained scientific attack, with costs rising as survey work deepened, became an obvious casualty. The atoll was saved by an argument about ecology and a run on the currency at the same time.
